U.K. competition watchdog launches vet industry probe

The U.K.'s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has announced plans to launch an investigation into the U.K.’s vet industry after a review that drew over 56,000 responses from the public and vet industry highlighted concerns that pet owners are not getting value for money. Among issues that were highlighted were concerns that owners are being overcharged for medicines. There are also questions over whether larger groups taking over smaller practices may have reduced competition in the market. CMA chief executive Sarah Cardell said: “The message from our vets work so far has been loud and clear – many pet owners and professionals have concerns that need further investigation.”
